The ABC Advantage
Alpine Ministries, an extension camp ministry of Appalachian Bible College, provides an opportunity to put into practice what you learn in class. You will be able to utilize the onsite facilities and serve in leadership roles during the summer to further develop your personal philosophy of camping and assist in determining the Lord’s will for your future.
Outdoor experiences abound in West Virginia! Within minutes of the college, you will have access to world-class rafting, kayaking, hiking, rappelling, and rock climbing in the New River Gorge.
One aspect of ABC's Camping Ministry degree that makes it stand out as a top program in the U.S. is the “Skill Classes.” These are experiential courses in which you'll learn practical skill development along with leadership training. Some classes give you the opportunity to earn nationally-recognized certifications. These courses are more than fun activities; they are tools that you will use to impact lives with the living Word of God. Horizontal & Vertical Caving, Whitewater Rafting, and Backpacking & Outdoor Leadership are just a few of the Skill Classes offered.
Mr. John Skaggs - Camping Ministry Chair
When I came to ABC for the one-year Bible Certificate, I took a camping class and discovered how powerful the outdoor setting could be in imparting biblical truth. The idea of using the outdoors to point people to Christ and His Word ignited a fire in my heart.
Christian camping has proven to be a great tool for evangelism, discipleship, and leadership training. I am committed to training camping leaders who will go around the world to reach their generation for Christ.
Why Camping Ministry?
Approximately a quarter million people made decisions to become Christians at camps and conference centers in 2008. Camping programs across the U.S. need more than half a million camp staff annually to function properly.
The need for qualified, capable camp leaders far exceeds the supply of competent, trained workers. Earning an accredited four-year Camping Ministry degree from a top Christian college will prepare you to meet this demand.
