Music has the capacity to unify a church in worship, prepare a heart to receive the Gospel, or drive home the truth of God's Word. So where can you get the best education and experience in order to skillfully wield the tool of song for God's glory?
Appalachian Bible College offers a double major in Bible / Theology and Music, and its top goal is to equip you for music ministry in a local church. The accredited bachelor's degree program will develop your musical skills, give you plenty of performance opportunities, and shape your passion for a biblical philosophy of music.
The ABC Advantage
The music faculty at Appalachian Bible College are creative, talented, and committed to your success as a musician. They will instruct you in music history, philosophy, and performance—all from a biblical worldview. Individualized attention through small class size provides extensive personalized feedback.
At ABC, you will gain practical experience through participation in campus music groups or touring music teams as well as opportunities to serve in chapels and conferences. Also, you will be encouraged to find a local West Virginia church where you can minister as accompanist or song leader, choir member, etc.
Mr. Roger VanMaasdam -
Worship is about the beauty of holiness; it is the adoration, exaltation, love and praise of God. Humbly done in spirit and in truth and proceeding from a pure heart, the worship of God is both individual and corporate.
At ABC, students are prepared to lead in the musical expression of worship through spiritual leadership, musical excellence and a humble servant's heart. These ingredients enable their ministry of music to be relevant and effective in churches today.
Choose one of three concentrations in the Music Degree:
- Choral - use choral conducting in ministry and educational settings
- Piano - receive practical music training while enhancing your piano skills
- Voice - gain experience as a soloist and as a part of larger ensembles
The Bible has much to say about music and strongly supports its place in worship. Paul commands Christians to communicate with one another "in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord."
Since the days of Moses, individuals have been given the task of leading others in praise and worship of God through music. The need for godly, trained musicians in the church remains today, whether leading congregational singing, accompanying with instruments, or directing a choir.
