In light of President Trump's March 29th announcement to extend the social distancing guidelines for at least another month, ABC's Administration has decided to delay the 2020 Commencement. We understand that graduation is an important event celebrating the accomplishments of our graduates, and we want to make sure they are honored in the tradition of ABC. At this time, we are tentatively planning for Commencement on September 5th, 2020 in lieu of May 2nd so that the entire campus family can celebrate this significant moment with our graduates and their families. If circumstances require this to change again, we will announce that as soon as possible. Until then, we will continue to uphold our students and families in prayer as we trust the Lord to work His will in each of our lives.

In light of continuing developments ABC will now be moving classes online starting Tuesday, March 24th through Friday, May 1st. Spring break will be extended 1 week to allow faculty additional time to prepare and for students to get settled into new arrangements. Commencement plans will be determined at a later point.

It is with deep regret that we must come to this conclusion, but feel there are several recent factors that have led to this ultimate decision, including: additional guidance from local health officials, the closure of many local churches that would affect Christian service, the results of surveying student activities during the break, and the complications of offering classes on campus while also making provisions for those who would not be returning to campus.

We are thankful for your understanding that decisions made up to this point were prayerfully considered based on the information available at that time and based on the recommendations of health authorities. While we have been preparing for this scenario for a couple of weeks, our desire has been to resume on-campus classes as we believe that provides the greatest opportunity for effectively training servants. However, our first priority is for the health and well-being of our campus family, and this online arrangement will provide the lowest risk of exposure as well as allow for the continued education of all students.

Instructions for collecting personal belongings from residence halls is available on the CampusWeb. Instructions and details for the online delivery will be issued to students on Friday, March 20. As noted before, we will be reviewing student room & board charges and making appropriate adjustments to student accounts based on the shortening of their time on campus.

We appreciate your continued prayers for this transition and for Christ to be magnified as we are committed to training Servants for His work...because Life is for Service.

From the President:

Dr. Daniel Anderson The global concern for the Coronavirus has magnified the opportunity to wisely respond to both physical and spiritual needs of those in our care.

Appalachian Bible College is taking proactive steps to guard the health of the ABC family from the Coronavirus. In consultation with public health officials, we are monitoring the spread of the virus, and increasing precautions to protect student and staff health on campus.

We rest in the reality that there is no panic in the council of Heaven, only plans which our sovereign God is carrying out for His glory and our good. We respond with the knowledge that He is working all these things for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purposeā€”the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will (Romans 8:28, Ephesians 1:11). Therefore, it is our desire to glorify God in this situation by:

  • Resting in the will and work of our good and sovereign God.
  • Responding wisely to protect the health of our students, staff, and ministry guests.
  • Reaching our world with the hope of Christ in the midst of uncertain times.

Thank you for your prayers and support for our mission of training servants of Christ to effectively share the Gospel and strengthen the Church in a spiritually needy world.

His Slave,
Daniel L. Anderson, Th.D.
